During this meeting, we discussed…
Key Concerns/Challenges:
- Water quality
- Effective traffic management of the various types of vessel operating on the rivers
- Public information as it relates to the rivers- existing public access points, water quality updates, signage for trails along the rivers, etc.
Key Priorities/Opportunities:
- Increased number of bike and pedestrian bridges throughout the river systems
- A clean-up of the vegetation along the river systems as well as a clean-up of the rivers (water and sediment) themselves
- Flooding in neighborhoods
Big Ideas:
- Kayak companies working as a consortium, which could work similarly to the Chicago CityPASS for the City of Chicago’s attractions
- Information Kiosks located along Chicago’s rivers, with information such as existing access points, daily water quality reports and existing trails along the river
- Expand water taxi routes to reach communities that are located farther North/South than the routes’ existing stops
