Ping Tom Memorial Park in Chinatown is an example of the potential of our 100+ miles of riverfront in Chicago.

During this meeting, we discussed…

Key Concerns/Challenges:

  • Combined sewer overflows
  • As more people utilize the rivers, safety on the water is a huge concern
  • Water quality and nature conservation

Key Priorities/Opportunities:

  • Mixed use along riverfronts with public access, green spaces, restaurants and industry
  • More recreational opportunities of all kinds along the Main Stem, North Branch and North Branch Canal
  • Better connections and access points from downtown/Loop to riverfront

Big Ideas:

  • Connect the Riverwalk all along Main Stem
  • Connect the 606 Trail to River trail
  • More kayak public launches, with parking
