Ping Tom Memorial Park in Chinatown is an example of the potential of our 100+ miles of riverfront in Chicago.
During this meeting, we discussed…
Key Concerns/Challenges:
- Riverfront development spurring gentrification
- Need for safe, easy and equitable access to rivers and riverfronts
- Balance between more development to attract tourists/resources, industry for better jobs and preserving natural areas
Key Priorities/Opportunities:
- More recreational opportunities along the South Branch, Main Stem of the Chicago River
- Continuous bike path connections from surrounding communities to river trails, from downtown to South Branch, etc.
- Better job opportunities along rivers
Big Ideas:
- Restaurants and museum by Bubbly Creek and Canal Origins Park
- Collateral Channel water access, green open space
- Canoe and kayak leased storage at Ping Tom Park Boathouse for private boats
