Ping Tom Park in Chinatown is an example of the potential of our 100+ miles of riverfront in Chicago.

During this meeting, we discussed…

Key Concerns/Challenges:

  • Repeated and extensive flooding and property damage
  • Water quality and combined sewer overflows
  • Need better access points, riverfront trails with signage, bridges and amenities

 Key Priorities/Opportunities:

  • Improve stormwater management along the Des Plaines River, North Branch, North Shore Channel
  • More recreational opportunities along the North Branch of the Chicago River
  • More restaurants and entertainment and other economic development along North Shore Channel

Big Ideas:

  • Water taxi from Horner Park to the Riverwalk
  • Art installations among the trees, sculptures along riverbank
  • Divvy Kayaks or canoes
